Spotify Devs Write Zero Code: AI Does the Work
14 Feb
Summary
- Top Spotify developers haven't coded since December, relying on AI.
- An internal AI system called 'Honk' accelerates coding productivity.
- AI helps fix bugs, create new app versions, and deploy code remotely.

Spotify's co-CEO Gustav Söderström revealed that the company's leading developers have not written code since December 2025, yet feature releases continue at a rapid pace. This shift is attributed to an internal AI system named 'Honk,' which leverages Anthropic's Claude Code to enhance coding productivity and facilitate real-time code deployment.
This AI-driven approach allows engineers to remotely fix bugs and deploy new app versions efficiently. The trend of AI in coding is also evident at companies like Meta and Microsoft. Spotify's unique music dataset poses interesting challenges for its Large Language Model, as music-related queries are often subjective.
In addition to development, Spotify is labeling AI-generated music on its platform while actively monitoring for spam. The company also announced significant user growth, adding 38 million new users in Q4 2025, bringing its total to 751 million monthly active users. This growth was partly driven by its year-end Wrapped campaign.
