Starship Reaches Orbit: A New Space Era Dawns

SpaceX's Starship rocket successfully entered Earth's orbit for the first time during a crucial test flight from Starbase. The vehicle ascended to approximately 170 miles above the planet, even with one of its 33 Raptor engines failing during the climb. The burn to reach orbit lasted 19 seconds.

This flight initiates a new development phase for the 407-foot-tall Starship. The mission is scheduled to complete six orbits over nearly 10 hours, allowing for extensive testing in the space environment. A key objective is the deployment of 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites.

Following its orbital operations, Starship will attempt a controlled reentry and a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. The Super Heavy booster successfully separated and completed its splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. SpaceX's long-term vision for Starship is a fully reusable system for transporting cargo and people to the Moon and Mars.
