17 Apr
Summary
- Canadians can now use SpaceX's satellite-to-phone service in Canada and the US.
- Rogers customers with specific plans get free satellite roaming in the US.
- Starlink Mobile works in dead zones, supporting apps like WhatsApp and Google Maps.

Canadians can now utilize SpaceX's Starlink Mobile service, expanding its reach to include domestic use and roaming within the United States. Previously offered domestically by Rogers Communications, the satellite connectivity has now extended to customers traveling south.
This satellite roaming capability activates automatically in areas beyond the reach of conventional cell towers, offering a vital connection for Canadians exploring remote regions. For Rogers customers, this US satellite roaming is included without additional charges on specific popular or ultimate plans with US coverage, Roam Like Home, and select Travel Passes.
Rogers collaborated with T-Mobile to enable this cross-border feature, leveraging T-Mobile's own Starlink Mobile implementation, T-Satellite. T-Satellite also functions automatically in dead zones across the continental US, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and parts of southern Alaska. Japan's KDDI Au carrier has also begun offering similar Starlink Mobile access for travelers to the US.
SpaceX's solution differentiates itself by supporting data for select mobile applications, including video calls on WhatsApp and navigation with Google Maps. T-Mobile has been enhancing its offering by adding support for apps like Yahoo Mail and Apple Music. Future upgrades are planned, with SpaceX preparing to introduce 5G connectivity offering download speeds of up to 150Mbps using next-generation satellites starting next year.
