Summary
- SpaceX plans a network of one million satellites for AI computing.
- The AI satellite features massive solar panels spanning 230 feet.
- A new Texas facility will manufacture solar panels for the satellites.

Elon Musk has provided a closer look at SpaceX's ambitious AI data center satellite project. The company intends to construct a network of approximately one million satellites designed for complex artificial intelligence computing in Earth orbit. The initial version, dubbed AI1, will feature substantial solar panels extending 230 feet and offer considerable power, with a peak output of 150 kilowatts. Musk suggested this project is simpler to develop than SpaceX's Starlink internet system.
To support this endeavor, SpaceX is planning a significant expansion of its Bastrop, Texas facility. This enlarged site, named Gigasat, will cover over 11 million square feet and be dedicated to manufacturing the massive solar panels required for the AI satellites. This development is a key driver for SpaceX's anticipated initial public offering later this week.
