Reflect Orbital, a new startup, has unveiled an ambitious plan to control and monetize the sun's light. They intend to achieve this by deploying a fleet of massive mirrors into orbit around Earth.
The company's inaugural reflective satellite is named Eärendil-1. This designation is a tribute to a character from J.R.R. Tolkien's legendary tales. The satellite's mission is to test and demonstrate the feasibility of their space-based solar management concept.
This pioneering project seeks to harness the sun's energy in an unprecedented manner. By controlling sunlight's intensity and direction from space, Reflect Orbital aims to unlock new commercial opportunities and potentially influence terrestrial illumination.
