Solana's Upgrade Boosts Speed, Ethereum's Faces Delays
25 Sep
Summary
- Solana's Alpenglow upgrade aims to reduce transaction finality to 150 milliseconds.
- Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade has been delayed to the fourth quarter.
- Solana ETFs have seen consistent inflows, while Ethereum experienced outflows.

Solana is set to launch its Alpenglow upgrade on September 28, a development poised to drastically improve transaction speeds, reducing finality to around 150 milliseconds. This upgrade also bolsters network resilience by increasing the threshold for downtime risk. The developer, Anza, has met its milestones, with the code already active in a non-finalized state.
Ethereum's comparable Glamsterdam upgrade, however, has encountered delays, shifting its target from the third quarter to the fourth quarter. A test run on the Sepolia network is slated for October 6, which could still push the full launch into 2027 if further setbacks occur.
Investment flows reflect these diverging paths. Solana's spot ETFs have experienced 12 consecutive weeks of inflows, while Ethereum saw a $140 million outflow in one September week, although it has since recovered. Solana also benefits from its role in hosting tokenized stocks.
