Snap has provided more details about its AR Specs, now available for pre-order at $2,195. The glasses will feature apps like HBO Max for content viewing and Spotify for music. A unique Shopify integration will enable 3D shopping experiences directly through the AR interface.
Interactive entertainment and educational content are also expanding. Users can engage with a Harry Potter experience tied to the new TV series, explore an Apollo 11 simulation, and utilize an interactive basketball app developed with the NBA and WNBA, offering visual guidance for drills. A dedicated Snapchat app allows for photo and video calls, with a snap-to-capture gesture.
Specs will also incorporate 'Specs Intelligence,' an anticipatory AI service designed to surface relevant information across connected apps and services. While usable independently, its full functionality is integrated with the Specs AR glasses. Snap assures that personal content from connected apps is not collected.
Further hardware enhancements include an optional charging case with cellular connectivity, facilitated through a partnership with Verizon. This offers an alternative to Wi-Fi for data access, though it requires a separate monthly data plan. The bundle with this case increases the total cost to $2,395.
