SCHOTT has introduced SCHOTT® Solar Glass exos, a new solar cell cover glass specifically designed for advanced satellite applications and future space missions. This innovation was developed through a partnership with AZUR SPACE Solar Power and received crucial funding from the European Space Agency (ESA).
The new glass provides enhanced optical stability, thermal compatibility, and broad scalability, making it suitable for a wide range of solar cell types, from simple silicon cells to advanced III-V multijunction cells. Its design addresses the harsh conditions of space, including intense radiation and extreme temperature fluctuations.
SCHOTT® Solar Glass exos offers exceptional UV absorption and resistance to solarization, ensuring long-term efficiency for satellite solar cells. The material is undergoing qualification to European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) standards, highlighting its readiness for demanding space missions.
