Samsung's Wide Fold: A New iPhone Fold Rival?
14 Feb
Summary
- Samsung is developing a wider, more square foldable phone.
- Early One UI 9 builds hint at a new foldable codenamed H8.
- New foldables may launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 this summer.

Samsung is allegedly developing a new foldable phone, codenamed H8, intended as a direct competitor to the anticipated iPhone Fold. This upcoming device is rumored to adopt a wider and more square form factor compared to current Samsung foldables, possibly featuring a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Hints of this new design have emerged from early test builds of One UI 9, which include animations with 'H8' in their filenames. While these do not offer detailed renders, they suggest the presence of a centered front-facing camera when closed and on the open display.
This Wide Fold device is anticipated to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, with Samsung typically releasing its foldables in July. This timeline is expected to hold for the upcoming releases as well.
