Samsung has clarified its software update commitments for various Galaxy Tab models, marking a shift from its past support practices.
The Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, S9 Ultra, S9 FE, and S9 FE+ will receive their final major Android updates in 2026, reaching One UI 9, which is based on Android 17. These devices, launched in 2023 with Android 13, were promised four major OS updates and five years of security patches until 2028.
Earlier models, such as the Galaxy Tab S8 series released in February 2022, have already received their concluding OS upgrade with One UI 8 (Android 16). Their security updates are expected to continue until February 2027. Similarly, the budget-oriented Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+ also saw their final major OS update with Android 16.
Fortunately for consumers, Samsung's software support has dramatically improved. The company introduced a seven-year update policy starting with the 2024 Galaxy Tab S10 series, which extends to the S11 and S12 models. Surprisingly, even budget devices like the 2025 Galaxy Tab A11 and A11+ are now included in this extended support.
Rugged Galaxy Tab Active devices have distinct policies. The Galaxy Tab Active5, launched in 2024, offers four years of OS updates and five years of security patches, extending its support through Android 18 with security updates until 2029.
It is important to note that update rollouts vary by device model and region. Users can check for available updates by navigating to Settings > Software update.
