11 Jul
Summary
- Samsung OneDrive photo backup integration ceases by September end.
- Users will need to find new backup solutions for their media.
- Samsung Gallery app offers unique features beyond Google Photos.
Samsung is discontinuing its OneDrive integration for photo and video backups within the Samsung Gallery app. This collaboration, which offered Galaxy users a viable alternative to Google Photos, will officially cease at the end of September. Users have been notified through on-device announcements, providing ample time to transition to new backup methods.
The integration allowed seamless syncing of media between Galaxy devices and Windows 11 PCs equipped with OneDrive. The Samsung Gallery app itself boasts features not found in Google Photos, enhancing its appeal to users aiming to avoid a sole reliance on Google services.
As the service is deprecated, users must proactively migrate their photos and videos to alternative cloud storage or local backup solutions to prevent data loss. This marks the end of a significant cloud storage partnership for Samsung Galaxy device owners.
