Samsung Halts TriFold Sales: Tech Showcase Ends

Samsung Electronics is set to invest more than 110 trillion won ($73.3 billion) by 2026, channeling funds into expanding memory chip production and advancing AI research.

This significant expenditure underscores Samsung's commitment to maintaining leadership in AI technology amidst a surge in demand for specialized memory chips. Competitors like SK Hynix and Micron Technology are also benefiting from this AI-driven market boom.

Concurrently, Samsung is winding down sales of its high-end Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone, which debuted just months ago. The $2,899 device, featuring a dual-hinge design and a 10-inch display, was primarily positioned as a demonstration of engineering capability rather than a mass-market product.

Sales have already ceased in South Korea and will end in the US upon depletion of existing stock. The TriFold's limited availability, sold exclusively through Samsung, hints at its niche status and the manufacturing complexities involved.

While the TriFold's future sequel remains undecided, its innovative screen technology might influence future foldable models. Meanwhile, Samsung is also rolling out the Galaxy S26 Ultra, boasting new AI capabilities and an enhanced Privacy Display.
