Summary

- Display technology uses special pixels to direct light only to the user.
- The feature aims to combat 'shoulder surfing' by criminals.
Samsung has introduced a revolutionary privacy feature in its latest Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone, dubbed 'Privacy Display.' This technology combats the growing threat of 'shoulder surfing' by criminals who aim to steal sensitive information. The display incorporates unique pixels that direct light solely towards the user, rendering the screen unreadable from side angles.
Users can activate this feature through the phone's settings, opting for 'Partial Screen Privacy' to obscure specific apps or notifications, or 'Maximum Privacy Protection' for complete screen obscurity. This integrated solution offers enhanced security without compromising brightness, resolution, or battery life, a significant advancement over external privacy filters.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra, released yesterday, is part of the new S26 lineup. Pre-orders begin February 25, with sales starting March 11. The S26 Ultra starts at £1,279.
