Summary
- Galaxy S26 FE launches Sept. 3, starting at $699.
- It offers many S26 AI features at a lower cost.
- Hardware compromises include lower peak display brightness.

Samsung has announced the upcoming release of its mid-range Galaxy S26 FE, scheduled for launch on September 3rd with a starting price of $699. This new model aims to bridge the gap between budget and flagship devices, offering many of the AI features found in the more expensive Galaxy S26. While the S26 FE costs $50 more than its predecessor, it provides a considerably lower entry point than the $1,099 base Galaxy S26.
To achieve its price point, Samsung has made several hardware adjustments. The S26 FE features a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,900 nits peak brightness, a step down from the S26's 2,600 nits. It also comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, compared to the S26's 12GB RAM and 512GB option. The telephoto camera has been reduced from 10MP to 8MP, though the FE model includes a larger 4,900mAh battery compared to the S26's 4,300mAh.
Despite these hardware differences, Samsung assures users that AI features, including photo editing and time-saving tools, will be on par with the flagship model. Performance of these AI features on the Exynos 2500 chip in the FE will be a key point of comparison with the S26's Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Galaxy S26 FE presents a strong value proposition for consumers prioritizing AI functionality and a premium feel at a reduced cost.
