The ROG Xreal R1 augmented reality glasses are now available for pre-order, priced at $849. This enhanced gaming AR headset from ASUS's ROG and Xreal is set to ship soon, also appearing on the company's website on May 17. This iteration is a significant upgrade over previous Xreal models, notably featuring a smoother 240Hz refresh rate that is particularly beneficial for fast-paced video games.
A key innovation is the bundled dock, which simplifies connecting multiple consoles, PCs, and other hardware. While Xreal's prior devices offered good performance, the ROG R1's improved refresh rate promises a more fluid visual experience. The glasses maintain a 57-degree field of view, creating a virtual screen up to 171 inches from four meters away, with a 1080p resolution.
Despite the high definition, the price point might leave some wishing for higher resolution from the micro-OLED panels. Nevertheless, the improved refresh rate makes the ROG Xreal R1 suitable for demanding games, while still functional for watching movies or performing PC tasks during leisure time. The added connectivity options through the dock, compared to earlier devices, suggest greater versatility for various gaming setups.
