Ring's Flock Deal Scrapped Amid Privacy Storm
13 Feb
Summary
- Ring canceled its partnership with surveillance firm Flock.
- A Super Bowl ad for Ring's 'Search Party' feature sparked controversy.
- Concerns over privacy and surveillance technologies are growing.

Ring has ended its collaboration with Flock, a surveillance technology company, following controversy surrounding a recent Super Bowl advertisement. This decision comes after the ad, which promoted Ring's 'Search Party' feature for locating lost pets, drew significant public criticism over privacy implications.
The partnership, initially announced in October 2025, was intended to integrate Ring's platform with Flock's AI-powered services, enabling users to voluntarily share video footage with law enforcement. Ring stated that no customer videos were ever shared with Flock as the integration never launched.
Flock has faced scrutiny from advocacy groups regarding its data sharing practices with immigration enforcement, which the company denies. Despite ending the Flock partnership, Ring continues to work with Axon, another company involved in law enforcement requests for user video footage.
Ring's 'Search Party' feature, separate from the Flock integration, allows users to alert nearby Ring cameras to help find lost pets. This feature, which Ring claims has successfully reunited numerous pets with their owners, remains operational and unaffected by the partnership's dissolution.
