Summary
- Reddit plans to label registered bot accounts with an '[APP]' tag.
- Users with suspicious behavior may need to verify humanness via biometrics.
- New reporting tools aim to make identifying suspected bots easier.

Reddit is implementing a new strategy to identify and manage bots on its platform. As of March 25, 2026, the company will introduce a labeling system for officially registered automated accounts, which will be marked with an "[APP]" tag.
For users exhibiting "automated" or "fishy behavior," Reddit may require them to verify their humanness. Proposed methods include biometric checks such as fingerprint scanning or using third-party services like World ID, which utilizes eyeball scanning. While these verification requests are expected to be rare, failure to comply could result in account restrictions.
Reddit is also refining its bot reporting tools to be more user-friendly and flexible. The company's focus remains on ensuring that accounts interacting on the platform are operated by live humans, while monitoring the evolving use of AI.
Previous steps taken by Reddit include testing account verification for brands and individual users starting last year. The CEO had previously hinted at a bot verification system in February and discussed using Face ID for humanness verification.
