AI Boom Forces Raspberry Pi Price Hikes
3 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Raspberry Pi modules are now more expensive due to AI demand.
- Memory prices have surged, impacting tech hardware.
- A new budget 1GB Raspberry Pi 5 model is now available.

Raspberry Pi has announced immediate price increases for many of its single-board computers, including the popular Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 models. The cost of these modules is rising by $5 to $25, depending on the specific configuration and RAM included. The 16GB Compute Module 5 variants have seen a $20 increase, now starting at $140.
CEO Eben Upton cited the "painful but ultimately temporary" pressure on memory prices, driven by the AI industry's significant demand for infrastructure. He expressed hope that these price adjustments will be unwound once the market pressure abates. This situation mirrors broader industry trends where AI companies are consuming vast amounts of RAM and GPUs.
Amidst these price hikes, Raspberry Pi is also introducing a new, more affordable 1GB variant of the Raspberry Pi 5, priced at $45. This model still features a quad-core processor, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a PCI Express slot, offering a cost-effective option for consumers.
