Tata Electronics and Qualcomm Technologies have initiated a significant collaboration to manufacture Qualcomm Automotive Modules within India. This partnership will utilize Tata Electronics' upcoming high-volume semiconductor assembly and test facility located in Jagiroad, Assam. The initiative directly supports India's national "Make in India" program.
The collaboration is poised to enhance the local production of critical automotive technologies. These include systems for digital cockpits, infotainment, vehicle connectivity, and intelligent driving systems. By integrating Qualcomm's Snapdragon Digital Chassis system-on-chips into production-ready units, the partnership simplifies system design and accelerates development timelines for software-defined vehicles.
This venture represents a strategic step for Qualcomm's automotive growth, as noted by Nakul Duggal, EVP at Qualcomm Technologies. "Expanding manufacturing capacity in key regions becomes essential," Duggal stated, highlighting Tata Electronics' world-class expertise. The Jagiroad facility, an investment of USD 3 billion, is India's first indigenous OSAT facility and will focus on advanced platform technologies vital for automotive, IoT, and AI sectors.
Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. He stated that the collaboration aims to establish Tata Electronics as a global hub for high-technology manufacturing. The facility's capabilities in Integrated Systems Packaging (ISP) will ensure high-quality, high-performance products for Qualcomm's global leadership.
