Promega Launches DNA Kit to Slash Forensic Stutter
29 Sep
Summary
- New kit uses Reduced-Stutter Polymerase to cut artifact noise.
- Achieves an 8-fold reduction in stutter signal for clearer electropherograms.
- Enhances mixture interpretation and detection of minor contributors.
Promega Corporation has introduced the Paradyme™ 27GY STR System, a significant advancement in forensic DNA analysis. This kit is the first to incorporate the company's proprietary Reduced-Stutter Polymerase (RSP), an engineered enzyme designed to minimize confounding artifacts at their source. The RSP enzyme reduces stutter signal intensity by an average of eightfold, often making it undetectable against baseline noise.
This breakthrough technology results in clearer electropherograms, enhancing the accuracy of determining the number of contributors and improving the detection of minor DNA profiles in mixed samples. Consequently, forensic laboratories can now interpret more complex mixtures with greater confidence and speed, aiding in the resolution of more cases and reducing backlogs. The system supports 23 autosomal STR loci, Amelogenin, and key Y-STR loci, aligning with CODIS requirements.
The Paradyme™ 27GY STR System is designed for use with Promega's Spectrum CE System and Spectrum Compact CE System, complementing their 8-dye STR analysis capabilities. Promega offers comprehensive support for forensic organizations, including in-house evaluations, optimization, validation, and training, to facilitate adoption of this new chemistry.
