27 Oct
Summary
- Pokémon Unite will officially cease operations on March 23, 2027.
- The game's free-to-play monetization included battle passes and cosmetics.
- A final update will add a special farewell event in November.
Pokémon Unite, the popular five-on-five battle arena game, will cease operations on March 23, 2027. The game, which launched on Switch in July 2021 and subsequently on mobile devices, supported cross-platform play for its player base.
Built by Tencent's TiMi Studios, Pokémon Unite operated on a free-to-play model, utilizing battle passes, cosmetic items, and in-game gems for monetization. Sales of gems have already stopped as of today, alongside new Unite Club memberships and auto-renewals.
While the game's split from the 2027 Pokémon World Championships in July was a hint of its impending closure, qualifier tournaments for a separate event in Tokyo are still scheduled to begin in December.
A final update is slated for November 12, introducing a special farewell event. Additionally, a new Library feature will allow players to view certain in-game items post-service, provided they download the data before the shutdown.
