Sony Launches Vue: Cut Cable With PS3/PS4 Live TV

Sony's eagerly anticipated PlayStation Vue live TV streaming service is now available for PS3 and PS4 owners in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago. This new offering allows users to stream live television, including broadcast and cable channels, for a monthly fee.

The entry-level package costs $49.99 per month and provides access to approximately 50 channels. This selection includes popular networks like TNT, TBS, USA, MTV, FX, and Comedy Central, alongside local NBC, Fox, and CBS affiliates. For sports enthusiasts, a $59.99 "Core" package adds national and regional sports networks.

Vue boasts an intuitive interface designed for ease of use, featuring a live TV mode that continues playing in the background while users navigate content. The service offers cloud-based DVR functionality and allows users to save shows, with access to past episodes for 28 days. Popular programming is also available for the last three days without recording.

A significant omission from Vue's channel lineup is ABC, which means no ESPN or Disney channels. Despite this, the service's robust channel selection and intelligent interface position it as a strong contender for those looking to cut traditional cable subscriptions. Sony plans to expand Vue to more cities nationwide soon, offering a free week-long trial for new users.
