The beloved 2000 real-time strategy game, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, has been revived and made accessible through modern web browsers. The Chrono Divide project allows enthusiasts to play the classic title directly in browsers like Chrome, Edge, and Safari, offering a nostalgic trip for fans of the genre. This innovative project aims to bring back the full experience of the original engine.
Currently, the Chrono Divide project focuses on enabling cross-platform multiplayer, allowing players to compete on all original maps. Some mods are also compatible, enhancing the multiplayer experience. However, the single-player campaign, known for its famously campy cutscenes, is still under active development and not yet available for browser play.
Initiated as an experiment to prove the feasibility of running a cross-platform RTS in a browser, the Chrono Divide project now offers a playable version. To get started, players must import the original game files, with the project website providing a link to the Internet Archive for easy access. The ultimate goal is to achieve feature parity with the original Red Alert 2 engine.
