Google Cuts Free Safety Signal for Pixel Watch LTE
8 Oct
Summary
- Pixel Watch 2 and 3 LTE Safety Signal free access ends December 12th.
- Users must have a mobile plan for cellular Safety Signal use.
- Emergency features will still work on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
The free access to Safety Signal for LTE-enabled Google Pixel Watch 2 and 3 models is concluding. This essential feature, which powered emergency services like Fall Detection and Emergency SOS over cellular networks without requiring a separate carrier plan, will end its complimentary service on December 12th. Google has communicated this change through a community post, informing users that continued cellular use of Safety Signal will necessitate a mobile plan.
Existing users will receive notifications and emails detailing the transition. A 30-day grace period will follow the email notification before the free access fully expires in mid-December. Beyond this date, the emergency functionalities will continue to operate on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3. However, this functionality will be limited to connections via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth pairing with a smartphone, rather than independent cellular operation without a mobile plan.
