Google is reintroducing gesture controls to its Android-powered wearables with an update for the Pixel Watch 4. Users will soon be able to control their watch using a double pinch gesture, a feature reminiscent of Apple Watch functionality, enabling actions like answering calls or managing timers.
A quick wrist turn, previously used for scrolling, will now serve to dismiss notifications or incoming calls, streamlining interaction. While the Pixel Watch 3 will not receive these gesture updates, both the Pixel Watch 4 and 3 will benefit from an enhanced Smart Reply feature.
This upgrade leverages a new on-device AI model based on Google's Gemma, offering faster and more memory-efficient AI-generated replies. Google reports significant improvements in performance and user satisfaction with the new AI model.
