Pixel 6 & 6 Pro: Software End-of-Life Approaches

Google's Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, released in October 2021, are set to reach the end of their software update lifecycle. The Android 17 QPR1 update, scheduled for the September Pixel Drop, will be the final stable release for these models. This marks the conclusion of their five-year software support period, which will technically end around October 2026.

Although the phones will remain functional, they will cease to receive new features and essential security patches. This cessation of updates will make them increasingly susceptible to bugs and malware as time progresses. Google anticipates users will consider upgrading, with a new Pixel series expected soon.

Despite the end of official support, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro can still serve various purposes. Options include repurposing them as dedicated e-readers, car dashcams, alternative webcams, portable power banks, or Wi-Fi extenders. They can even function as PC consoles with specific apps, offering continued utility and reducing e-waste.
