Pentagon Taps 7 AI Giants for Secret Networks
1 May
Summary
- Seven AI firms will deploy advanced capabilities on classified military networks.
- Anthropic was excluded due to disputes over AI usage and supply-chain risks.
- SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, and others will integrate with Pentagon AI systems.

The Pentagon announced on Friday that it has secured agreements with seven artificial intelligence firms. These companies will deploy their advanced AI capabilities on the Defense Department's classified networks, a move designed to diversify the AI partners working with the military. The list of selected companies includes SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services.
Notably absent from this group is Anthropic, which has faced disputes with the Pentagon regarding the implementation of guardrails for its AI tools. Earlier this year, the Pentagon identified Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, restricting its use by the department and its contractors. Despite this, discussions regarding Anthropic's status are ongoing, with the potential for its blacklisting to be reversed.
