- This 138-million-euro project offers a faster alternative to congested roads and buses.

The Ile-de-France region of Paris has launched its first urban cable car, the C1 line, marking a significant advancement in public transportation for its southeastern suburbs. This new 4.5-kilometer aerial route connects the towns of Creteil to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, passing through Limeil-Brevannes and Valenton, and is designed to serve approximately 11,000 passengers daily.
The cable car promises a swift 18-minute journey, a dramatic reduction from the 40 minutes typically required by bus or car. This initiative aims to combat urban isolation and alleviate congestion by linking underserved neighborhoods to the broader public transit network, including Paris Metro line 8. Residents can use standard bus tickets or travel passes for access.
Costing 138 million euros, the project was deemed more economical than subway construction, which would have exceeded a billion euros. The gondolas, each accommodating ten passengers along with space for wheelchairs and bicycles, are equipped with modern safety features. This innovation positions France's seventh urban cable car as a vital link for communities previously lacking adequate public transport options.
