Filed by Clarkson Law Firm, the suit seeks class action status and a jury trial, asserting that Oura's rings, priced at $300 and above, misled consumers about their ability to monitor sleep cycles. The legal challenge claims Oura's algorithms and sensors are incapable of accurately detecting the physiological signals necessary for precise sleep stage measurement.

Instead, the lawsuit contends that Oura devices employ "AI-generated guesses," which it equates to a coin flip's reliability. This contradicts Oura's marketing statements, such as "95% Sleep Staging Accuracy compared to clinical sleep lab." The suit highlights that medical sleep labs utilize complex methods, including multiple electrodes for brain activity, which Oura products lack. Experts suggest that while trackers can flag potential symptoms, they do not diagnose and should not be overemphasized for single data points or scores, noting that more research is needed for wearable health trackers as scientific study struggles to keep pace with product launches.
