Opera Browser Offers Free eSIM Data for Travelers

Opera's web browser for Android now features an integrated eSIM service, providing travelers with 3GB of free 5G data. This innovative travel perk aims to offer a convenient alternative to traditional roaming. The complimentary data is available for three days upon activation, allowing users to test the service with no strings attached. Beyond browsing, the eSIM can be utilized for navigation or communication apps while abroad.

Users in the US can access this feature across 46 other countries, with a broader list of supported nations including Canada, the UK, Germany, France, and the UAE. To utilize the eSIM, smartphones must be carrier-unlocked and run Android 10 or later. While the initial 3GB is free for three days, extended coverage can be purchased with 3GB, 5GB, or 10GB top-ups, with pricing varying by destination. Users have up to a year to use their data after initial setup, and plans can be bought before travel to avoid airport Wi-Fi.

Currently, this eSIM functionality is exclusive to Android devices, with no immediate plans for an iPhone release. However, Opera's iOS browser does offer a built-in VPN, hinting at potential future developments. For those unable to access this feature or seeking alternatives, PCMag offers a comprehensive ranking of available eSIMs for both iPhone and Android users.
