Samsung & OPPO: Android 17 Skins Differ Wildly

Samsung's One UI 9 is currently stable, having launched on July 22, 2026, with broad device support across its Galaxy lineup. In contrast, OPPO's ColorOS 17 is undergoing a closed beta, with its stable release anticipated in Q4 2026, primarily for the Find X10 series. One UI 9 builds upon its predecessor's 'Fluid AI' design, introducing incremental visual tweaks and enhanced AI capabilities.

ColorOS 17 adopts a distinct 'liquid acrylic' aesthetic, aiming for reduced GPU load and improved readability through weaker refraction. Samsung's One UI 9 heavily integrates Google's Gemini Intelligence for agentic AI tasks within apps and introduces features like Now Nudge for proactive suggestions. ColorOS 17 is expected to feature its updated assistant, Xiaobu Next, with unverified AI enhancements.

Both skins benefit from Android 17's core optimizations for RAM management and background performance. One UI 9 enhances multitasking with floating bubbles and DeX improvements, alongside battery-saving bypass charging. ColorOS 17 reportedly focuses on lower-level optimizations for smoother performance, especially on mid-range devices, and reduced idle battery drain.

Samsung champions a seven-year update commitment for its flagship devices, contrasting with OPPO's typical four-year support. This extended longevity, coupled with a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing watches, tablets, and rings, positions Samsung as a long-term choice. OPPO's strategy focuses on a unified ColorOS 17 across multiple BBK brands, aiming for wider user reach despite a less mature ecosystem.
