Ola Electric has achieved a crucial government certification for its S1 X+ (5.2 kWh) electric scooter from the International Centre for Automative Technology (ICAT). This approval signifies a major step for Ola's mass-market EV strategy.
The S1 X+ is equipped with a 11 kW mid-drive motor and boasts a top speed of 125 km/h, with a stated IDC range of 320 km. Powering the scooter is Ola's proprietary 4680 Bharat cell, a lithium-ion cell engineered for extended travel.
This certification is a "significant milestone" according to an Ola spokesperson, enabling the company to deploy its in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology at scale for the mass market. ICAT conducted comprehensive tests, including crash safety, battery integrity, performance metrics, and electromagnetic compatibility, ensuring the scooter meets all Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) for EVs.
With this endorsement, Ola Electric is poised to extend its electric vehicle technology to a wider audience, further solidifying its presence in the growing electric mobility sector.
