Japan Builds World's First National AI Factory

NVIDIA is collaborating with Noetra Corp. to launch Japan's first national AI factory, equipped with 13,750 NVIDIA Vera CPUs and 27,500 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs. This facility, operational as of July 16, 2026, will deliver 140 megawatts of data center capacity using the NVIDIA DSX platform and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking.
The AI factory will serve as the computational backbone for Japan's FRONTia Project, a government-backed initiative focused on developing multimodal foundation models for AI robotics and physical AI applications. This collaboration aims to fortify Japan's AI capabilities across critical industries including manufacturing, logistics, and healthcare.
Open multimodal foundation models and software from NVIDIA, such as Nemotron and Cosmos, will be made accessible to domestic developers and enterprises. This strategic move is designed to accelerate the creation of AI agents, digital twins, and robotics, positioning Japan to capture over 30% of the global AI robotics market by 2040.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, highlighted that Japan is building the AI factories for the next industrial revolution. Ryosei Akazawa, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, emphasized the project's role in fostering collaboration and addressing global social challenges. Hironobu Tamba, CEO of Noetra, noted the necessity of shared infrastructure for advancing physical AI.
