Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Debuts with Dynamic Frame Generation
10 Mar
Summary
- DLSS 4.5 launches March 31st with Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation.
- New RTX Mega Geometry boosts frame rates in path-traced games.
- No new GeForce RTX 50-series Super hardware was announced at GDC.

Nvidia announced significant updates to its DLSS technology at the Game Developers Conference. The DLSS 4.5 update, scheduled for release on March 31st, will feature Dynamic Multi-Frame Generation. This new capability allows DLSS to dynamically adjust frame generation factors, potentially generating up to five frames for every rendered one, to help maintain target performance metrics.
Beyond DLSS, Nvidia revealed RTX Mega Geometry, designed to enhance frame rates in games utilizing path tracing. This includes a specialized variant for foliage. The company also expanded its path tracing support to include "007 First Light" and "Control Resonant."
Several community projects were highlighted for bringing RTX lighting to older games like Portal 2 and Need for Speed: Carbon. Nvidia also presented GeForce Now as a tool for developers to facilitate playtests during the development cycle.
Despite these advancements, the anticipated launch of new hardware, specifically rumored GeForce RTX 50-series Super variants, did not occur at the event. This follows speculation about scaled-down consumer GPU production in favor of AI-focused industrial output.
