Nvidia Blames Microsoft for Latest Driver Glitches
6 Feb
Summary
- Microsoft's KB5074109 update is causing black screens and app crashes.
- Nvidia recommends uninstalling the Windows update to fix driver issues.
- Permanent fixes are expected in the February 10, 2026 security patch.

Users experiencing visual glitches after installing the latest Nvidia drivers are being advised by Nvidia representatives to uninstall Microsoft's January 2026 security update, KB5074109. This update has been linked to various problems, including black screens, Outlook crashes, and issues with File Explorer settings. The problems appear to stem from the recent release of both Microsoft's KB5074109 update and Nvidia's 591.86 GeForce Game Ready drivers.
Nvidia support personnel have suggested that uninstalling the Windows update may be the only immediate solution for affected users. While this offers a temporary workaround, it leaves systems more vulnerable until permanent fixes are available. Microsoft is expected to implement these fixes in the "Patch Tuesday" security update scheduled for February 10, 2026. An optional patch, KB5078127, has also been released by Microsoft that may address some of these issues.
