Summary
- NSW government unveils 2026 EV strategy to combat rising fuel costs.
- The plan includes $100m for charging infrastructure, especially in regional areas.
- Incentives are increasing for businesses to electrify trucks and heavy vehicles.

The NSW government has introduced a revamped electric vehicle strategy for 2026, focusing on building more charging stations and promoting electric trucks. This initiative aims to provide a viable alternative for motorists struggling with increasing fuel expenses.
A significant part of the $100 million package will fund the rollout of more fast-charging stations, particularly in regional and remote areas. This expansion seeks to encourage EV adoption beyond city limits, addressing current infrastructure gaps.
Additionally, the strategy emphasizes the transition of heavy vehicles to electric power. The EV Fleets Incentive Program is being broadened to support medium-sized trucks, offering grants for fleet operators to electrify their vehicles and install necessary charging infrastructure.
To support EV owners in regional areas, the government will also invest in training for 2,000 mechanics. This ensures that country drivers can access convenient and safe vehicle maintenance closer to home, facilitating broader EV uptake across the state.
