Summary
- Nothing plans AI-enhanced smart glasses for release in early 2027.
- New earbuds with AI features are expected later this year.
- The company aims for a multi-device strategy including unique aesthetics.

London-based startup Nothing Technology Ltd. is preparing to launch artificial intelligence-enhanced smart glasses, targeting the first half of 2027. This initiative marks a significant expansion of their product line, which currently includes smartphones and audio accessories. The company is also developing new earbuds with AI capabilities, slated for release later this year.
Initially hesitant, CEO Carl Pei has embraced a multidevice strategy, positioning Nothing to compete in the growing smart glasses market against giants like Apple and Google. The upcoming glasses will feature cameras, microphones, and speakers, relying on smartphone and cloud processing for AI functions to enhance user experience and automate tasks. Nothing plans to incorporate its distinctive design aesthetic, known for transparent elements and unique shapes, into the new eyewear.
While Nothing has recently released new phones, including the well-received 4a model, their focus includes growth in emerging markets like India and parts of Europe. The company secured $200 million in Series C funding, reaching a $1.3 billion valuation. Their AI strategy is evident in tools that allow widget creation via AI-assisted programming and integrated AI for analyzing voice memos and screenshots.
This move by Nothing occurs as major tech players are also investing in wearable AI. Apple is anticipated to release its own glasses early next year, and Meta has updated its Ray-Ban smart glasses. Google and Samsung are also reportedly planning their own releases this year, though none are expected to feature augmented reality displays initially.
