Nothing Ear 3A: Record audio directly on earbuds!
1 Aug
Summary
- Earbuds feature 32MB storage for direct audio recording.
- Improved noise-canceling performance over predecessor.
- IP54 water and dust resistance rating for buds and case.

Nothing has launched the Ear 3A, a more affordable version of its flagship earbuds, for $99. These earbuds introduce an unusual feature: 32MB of built-in flash storage that allows users to record up to two hours of audio directly to the buds by pinching the stems. This functionality, powered by Audio Snapshot, enables the clipping of media being listened to and call recording, with automatic syncing to the Nothing X app for editing and sharing.
The Ear 3A also feature improved noise-canceling performance, with Nothing claiming a 17.1% enhancement, particularly in the 400Hz to 2,000Hz frequency range. They come with an IP54 water and dust resistance rating, an upgrade from their predecessor. The design includes a more compact charging case, available in four colors, which also has an IP54 rating but omits wireless charging. The sound profile is described as bass-forward, though a recent firmware update has balanced it slightly. Support for SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs is included, alongside a fixed spatial audio mode.
Voice-calling performance is decent, with improved noise reduction but slightly less clear vocal output. Battery life is rated at up to 6 hours with ANC on and 10 hours with ANC off, with the case providing over three additional charges. While competing earbuds like the Earfun Air Pro 4 Plus and Anker Soundcore Liberty 5 offer similar performance for around the same price, the Ear 3A are recommended for their distinctive design and unique audio recording capability.
