Nothing Ear (3): Case gets metal makeover, earbuds refined
7 Dec
Summary
- New charging case and earbuds feature more metal for improved feel.
- Earbuds retain comfortable design, with stem pinch controls for playback.
- Case boasts a new Talk button for using its mic during calls.

The latest Nothing Ear (3) sees significant updates primarily focused on its charging case, which now features a more substantial metal construction beneath its transparent exterior. This metal cladding, especially on the case's base, imparts a more robust feel and aesthetic appeal. The earbuds themselves maintain a familiar, comfortable design with signature transparent aesthetics and the distinctive red dot for identification.
Control remains managed through stem pinching, allowing for playback adjustments and call management with single, double, or triple pinches, alongside a pinch-and-hold gesture for toggling noise cancellation and transparency modes. Advanced customization, including a custom double-pinch-and-hold for unique functions, is accessible via the companion app. The earbuds are equipped with 12mm dynamic drivers, Bluetooth 5.4, multipoint connectivity, and support for high-resolution LDAC codecs, enhancing compatibility for Android users.
A standout feature of the charging case is the new Talk button, which activates Nothing's Super Mic system, allowing calls to be routed through the case's microphone. This button also facilitates quick recordings or issuing commands. While the earpieces and case share an IP54 rating, offering resistance to sweat and light rain, users are advised against submersion. The inclusion of Voice AI integration for Nothing phone users adds another layer of smart functionality.
