Summary
- Nissan unveils Terrano PHEV Concept with rugged off-road focus.
- Concept draws power from a 1.5L turbo petrol and electric motor.
- Production model slated for launch within one year for China.

Nissan has revived the Terrano nameplate with a new plug-in hybrid SUV concept, unveiled at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. The Terrano PHEV Concept merges classic ruggedness with modern electrified technology, targeting adventure enthusiasts and the significant Chinese market. This resurrected model features a distinctly boxy, body-on-frame design, contrasting with its predecessor's urban-focused utility.
Distinctive exterior elements include segmented LED headlights, a functional bonnet scoop, and an integrated roof rack. The rear showcases a full-size spare wheel on the tailgate and robust bumpers for off-road scenarios. While official specifications are pending, the concept is anticipated to utilize a powertrain similar to the Frontier Pro PHEV pickup.
This setup is expected to combine a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering approximately 400 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. A 33 kWh battery should provide over 130 km of electric-only range on the CLTC cycle. Nissan plans to commence production within a year, positioning China as a key export center. Whispers of a potential Indian launch also add intrigue.
This unveiling is part of Nissan's strategy to introduce more new energy vehicles (NEVs), including the sleeker Urban SUV PHEV Concept. The brand is committed to expanding its electrified SUV offerings, with this rugged Terrano leading the charge for a new generation of eco-conscious off-roaders.
