Summary
- Switch 2 OLED model discussion is reportedly underway.
- Production might not begin until late 2027, suggesting a 2028 release.
- A resolution bump to 1920x1080 is being considered for the OLED screen.

Serious internal discussions are reportedly occurring at Nintendo regarding an OLED version of the Switch 2. This potential upgrade, which follows a similar path to the original Switch, is earlier than some analysts anticipated.
Industry sources suggest production might not commence until late 2027 at the earliest, pointing to a possible release in 2028. Samsung Display could again be the panel supplier, though cost remains a significant factor in the decision-making process.
A key consideration for this rumored OLED model is an increase in display resolution to 1920x1080. This upgrade would align with the Switch 2's existing native 1080p handheld resolution and address current criticisms of the LCD panel, such as ghosting and input lag.
While an OLED screen would offer enhanced HDR capabilities, it is expected to increase the console's price. The original Switch OLED model launched at a $50 premium over its standard counterpart. Separately, Nintendo is preparing smaller hardware revisions for European Switch 2 products this summer to meet regulatory requirements.
