Nikita Bier Leaves X Leadership Role, Stays On As Advisor

Nikita Bier, who joined X as head of product over a year ago, is departing his leadership role. He announced on X that he will continue to serve the company as an advisor, transitioning to what he described as his "natural state: a poster."

During his tenure, Bier was the public face of significant and sometimes contentious platform changes. These included the 'about this account' feature, which revealed country of origin for accounts, and recent updates to X's creator monetization program, which involved stricter rules against content theft and engagement bait.

Bier's prior entrepreneurial ventures include founding anonymous messaging applications targeted at teenagers. His polling app, tbh, was sold to Facebook in 2017, and his anonymous compliment app, Gas, was acquired by Discord in 2023. Both of these acquired apps have since been discontinued.

The company has not yet named a successor for Bier's product leadership role. Benji Taylor, who recently became head of design, acknowledged Bier's contributions and expressed enthusiasm for continuing his work.
