Electric bicycle maker N+ has collaborated with Volkswagen to produce the N+ Volkswagen eBike, billed as "the world's safest e-bike." This ambitious claim is supported by advanced technology, including smart glasses featuring a heads-up display and a helmet equipped with integrated front and rear lights, alongside a rear-facing camera. Initial testing occurred in Berlin during IFA 2026, though availability was impacted by shipping delays.
The N+ Volkswagen eBike Sport, seen during the test ride, features a robust frame and 27.5-inch wheels, powered by a 250W Yamaha mid-drive motor. Its integrated battery promises a range of approximately 100 miles. The bike also boasts corrosion-resistant materials, suitable for harsh winter conditions, and features illuminated VW badges on the front and rear.
Key technological integrations include the smart glasses, which display GPS navigation and speed on a color screen, and a helmet with Bluetooth connectivity for signaling braking and turns. A "Smart View" handlebar screen can show navigation, rear camera feeds, and blind-spot alerts. The bicycle itself offers a nimble ride with smooth gear shifting and responsive brakes.
Despite its advanced features, the N+ Volkswagen eBike comes with a significant price tag. The Sport model starts at $4,000, with the Crossover model at $4,350. Fully accessorized with items like the helmet, smart glasses, and security kit, the price can escalate to nearly $6,000 for the Sport model. The e-bikes are slated to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of 2026.
