Summary
- Terafab aims to add a trillion watts of compute annually.
- A new 2nm fab will produce approximately 1 billion AI chips yearly.
- Most AI chips produced will be deployed in space, powering AI satellites.

Elon Musk has revealed Terafab, an unprecedented chip-manufacturing endeavor designed to produce a trillion watts of compute power annually. This initiative involves a new 2nm fabrication facility capable of producing roughly one billion AI chips per year. A significant portion of these advanced AI chips are slated for deployment in space.
The facility boasts a unique, integrated process, combining mask creation, chip fabrication, and testing within a single building. This setup allows for a rapid nine-month cycle of recursive improvement, a process unmatched globally. Musk highlighted that 80% of the output will be utilized in space.
He further detailed a 100-kilowatt AI satellite, equipped with solar panels and radiators, indicating scalability to megawatt levels. This vision extends to Optimus robots, which, combined with photovoltaics, could become the first von Neumann probes—machines capable of self-replication using extraterrestrial resources.
