Mumbai has introduced India's first musical road, a unique 500-meter segment along the Coastal Road. This innovative installation is designed to play the iconic tune 'Jai Ho' as vehicles pass over it.
The musical effect is achieved through precisely cut grooves, or rumble strips, on the road surface. These create vibrations and a melody audible solely within the vehicle when driven at speeds between 70 and 80 kmph.
This feature aims to enhance road safety by encouraging motorists to adhere to recommended speeds. Advance signage is installed to guide drivers and help them experience the musical phenomenon.
With an investment of Rs 7.5 crore, this project brings internationally developed technology to Mumbai. Similar musical roads exist in several countries worldwide, promoting safety through auditory cues.
