Moto Watch Ultra: LTE Arrives for Standalone Smartwatch

The next Motorola smartwatch, potentially named the Moto Watch Ultra, is rumored to offer standalone functionality through LTE connectivity, according to leaked images. This would mark Motorola's first cellular-capable smartwatch since their shift away from Wear OS to a custom operating system earlier this year.

The leaked device shares a resemblance with the current Moto Watch, featuring a round face and a single side button. However, the Moto Watch Ultra is expected to have a 46mm stainless steel case, differing from the current 47mm aluminum model. It is also tipped to include IP68 water and dust resistance, a 5ATM rating, GPS, and the crucial LTE support, which was absent in the previous model that only offered Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Integrating LTE could significantly boost the utility of Polar's health and fitness tracking features, allowing for phone-free notifications and real-time location sharing during outdoor activities like running or cycling. A potential drawback, common with LTE wearables, is the impact on battery life, as the current Moto Watch boasts an impressive 13-day lifespan. Motorola's use of a real-time operating system, instead of Wear OS, contributes to this efficiency but limits Play Store app compatibility.
