Microsoft has launched a unified Copilot client, consolidating its consumer chatbot and enterprise AI tools into a single application. This new client, available on desktop starting today, integrates features for both individual users and businesses, reflecting a move away from previously separate interfaces.
The updated Copilot client features three primary tabs: Home, Code, and Autopilot. The Home tab merges chat and task completion functions, with a new 'Office in Copilot' feature allowing users to generate and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents directly within the app. The Code tab, powered by GitHub Copilot technology, offers AI-assisted coding in a secure environment.
Autopilot, previously known as Scout, functions as an autonomous agent with enhanced IT management controls. Microsoft is also evolving its pricing strategy. A user subscription license covers chat and Office integrations, while agentic features like Autopilot and Code will employ usage-based billing. Administrators will have tools to manage spending limits, with detailed reports available for cost oversight.
