Microsoft 365 Adds AI Content Watermarking
26 Feb
Summary
- Microsoft 365 will now watermark AI-generated audio content.
- Video content watermarking is expected in March 2026.
- AI content will also be marked with metadata.

Microsoft is implementing a new policy within Microsoft 365 to watermark content produced or modified by AI tools, including Copilot. This feature requires manual activation by administrators for organizations using Microsoft 365.
Initially, the watermarking applies to audio content generated or edited by AI. Support for video content watermarking is scheduled for release in March 2026. Microsoft has predetermined the text and placement for these watermarks, which cannot be customized by users.
Beyond visible watermarks, AI-generated content will be accompanied by metadata. This embedded information will detail aspects such as the AI model used, the creating application, and the generation timestamp. AI-generated images are managed through a separate, user-level policy.
