Meta's Muse App Outpaces ChatGPT Downloads
22 Sep
Summary
- Muse saw more downloads than ChatGPT in its first 12 days.
- Muse has more daily active users than ChatGPT did initially.
- Muse is expected to receive significant cross-promotion from Meta.

Meta's AI application, Muse, is demonstrating significant early traction, with estimates suggesting it could become the social media giant's next prominent app. During its initial twelve days post-launch, Muse achieved more downloads than ChatGPT did in the same period. Data also indicates a higher number of daily active users for Muse compared to ChatGPT's early performance.
To facilitate a direct comparison, market intelligence firm Appfigures analyzed iOS data in the U.S. and Canada for both apps' first twelve days. Within this specific subset, Muse recorded 1.8 million downloads, surpassing ChatGPT's 1.3 million. Globally, Muse garnered 2.8 million installs in its first twelve days and has climbed to the No. 1 spot on the U.S. App Store, outranking ChatGPT.
Appfigures' estimates further reveal that Muse's daily active users in the U.S. exceed ChatGPT's early figures. Even when comparing iOS daily active users alone, Muse leads with 359,000 compared to ChatGPT's initial 231,000. While these are third-party estimates, they suggest Muse's potential for significant growth, further bolstered by Meta's proven cross-promotion strategies.
Meta has a history of successfully leveraging its existing platforms to boost new app adoption, as seen with Instagram's Threads. Muse is anticipated to receive a similar promotional push, with integrations planned for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Notably, over 95% of Muse's users also engage with Facebook, and 63% use Instagram, highlighting strong user overlap.
