11 Sep
Summary
- Images of Meta's upcoming Project Phoenix headset have been leaked.
- The device appears lightweight and similar to glasses.
- A Meta Connect session suggests controller-free interaction.
Images of Meta's anticipated mixed reality headset, internally known as 'Project Phoenix', have surfaced prematurely. These visuals, discovered in a Meta app update, showcase a device with a notably lightweight, glasses-like form factor, differentiating it from Meta's established Quest line. This design appears consistent with previous rumors, including a potential reliance on a tethered connection.
Further details suggest a shift towards controller-free interaction, as indicated by a planned session at the upcoming Meta Connect developer event. While the exact front-facing design remains unseen, it is expected to incorporate cameras to support this hand-tracking functionality. Meta Connect, scheduled to begin September 23, could serve as the platform for an official unveiling of Project Phoenix.
However, reports indicate that the headset may not be ready for consumer release until the first half of 2027. Despite the delayed availability, Meta might still choose to preview the device at Connect to build anticipation for future hardware.
